Tim was a gem. He was a bear of man with dark eyes, full brows, and impressive facial hair that could make him seem kind of scary. Until he spoke. That’s when you knew he wore his heart on his sleeve. He asked questions about people’s lives, concerns, and interests – and he listened when they shared them. Through his listening, he felt other people’s struggles deeply and he celebrated their joys loudly. And then he acted on them. He was famous for his acts of kindness. If a friend needed a place to crash, Tim offered them a spare bed or couch. If he ran into someone after work, he invited them home for dinner.
Tim’s attentive ear made him a natural musician. He took up the guitar when he was 12 under the direction of Attleboro’s beloved musician and teacher, Dick Sousa. In two short years, Tim was playing in area clubs. Over his long musical career, Tim performed with several notable area bands, including Tulsa Queen, Back Issue, and The Bob Colson Band. He was the lead guitarist and vocalist in the blues band, The Blue F.O’s, whose rendition of “Back in a Cadillac” reached number 1 on the Cashbox Magazine blues music chart.
Tim’s musical accomplishments weren’t limited to the stage or recording studio, though. Unsurprisingly, he was as generous in his musical life as he was in other areas of it. If a charity needed a band for a fund raiser, Tim stepped in. If someone’s life was shattered by an accident or some other misfortune, Tim organized a fundraising event. Tim’s history of donating his time and talent to help others was honored in 2010 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Out of the public eye, Tim was always available to mentor fellow musicians of all abilities and ages, hoping to unlock in them the great joy he found in performing and sharing music.
The Tim Lindsey Music fund hopes to continue that work.
